Both Standard American and Acol are natural bridge bidding systems, but there are a number of significant differences and these are discussed in the page Acol – Standard American bidding differences. The section 3 of the conventions page of the Pattaya bridge club web site also covers Weak vs Strong No Trumps and there is also an article on opening 4 or 5 card majors.

I guess that ther are pros or cons, but i much prefer playing four card majors. It makes life so nuch easier when the opponents interfere.
Suppose you are playing SAYC and partner opens 1 club and RHO overcalls 1s. You hold:
s KJ7
h K975
d J432
c 43
Do you bid 1NT to show the good spades of do you negative double to show four hearts? Playing SAYC it’s a guess and either could work out best. Playing 4 card majors partner is unlikely to have four hearts and 1NT is clearly the favorite.

Thanks for your input, Derek.
Your piont is very valid, and I will mention it if/when I get round to writing a more comprehensive blog/article on 4 or 5 card majors.
