This week’s bridge news sheet No. 271 has 7 articles. There’s an article about a horrendous overcall of a 1♠ with 2♦ holding ♠98 ♥74 ♦Q96543 ♣KQ10 which went for 1100. Then there was another silly penalty when somebody unwisely doubled a multi opening and partner ended up playing in a 4-3 fit with a (surprise – surprise) 6-0 split. There’s an article on what to do when partner’s 1NT opening is overcalled at the three level (double is penalties). There was an adjusted score given when a player failed to give an adequate description of partner’s conventional bid. There are two Dave’s colunms this week, and both discuss the merit of doubling a response to Blackwood for a lead. There’s the usual Bridge cryptogram and then a play article where it seems impossible to go down in 6NT, but five players managed it!
