Bridge News Sheet 284
This week’s bridge news sheet No. 284 has 8 articles.
It starts off with a hand where one player grossly underbid but this was compensated for by his partner who overbid by 4 points. Then there’s a hand where a player opens 1♠ and LHO doubles. Partner raises pre-emptively to 4♠ and RHO bids 5♦. He held ♠KQJ62 ♥Q32 ♦3 ♣K532, vulnerable against not, and decided to disregard The Law Of Total Tricks and bid 5♠. Then there are two articles on missing the 4-4 major suit fit and another on the equally popular topic of the automatic re-opening double. Then there’s an article on the sequence 1♣ 1♠ dbl p 1NT p 2♥ p 2NT. Can this 2NT possibly be a sensible bid? Then we have a Dave problem on the play of the hand. The next Dave column is a bit different - one club member insistes that Deep Finesse computer program got it wrong and a 5♠ contract cannot be made on best defence. Dave wrote it up as a double dummy problem - can you solve it or is the computer wrong?
